GENERATIONS PROGRAM
For over 50 years, we have offered services that aim to foster intergenerational relationships that decrease social isolation and its associated negative health effects. We aim to improve quality of life through maintaining functionality and promoting autonomy, as well as nurturing a sense of awareness and responsibility toward older adults. We take time to match youth volunteers and senior members to encourage deeper interpersonal connections – these relationships offer a unique perspective to both generations.
services
FRIENDLY VISITS
A casual meeting between a match at the senior’s home or an agreed upon location. Matches can engage in various activities like sharing stories, making a cup of tea, playing a game, or going on a walk.
FRIENDLY ERRANDS
Service for seniors who are unable to leave home for various reasons (reduced mobility, injury, sickness, mental health issues, or extreme weather) and need items from the grocery store or pharmacy.
FRIENDLY CALLS
Service for isolated or homebound seniors not comfortable meeting face-to-face with a volunteer. Weekly calls provide an opportunity to socialize and act as a check-in to see how the senior is feeling.
ACCOMPANIMENTS
Volunteers help seniors get to and from various appointments, personal services, or other outings. This support is both physical and emotional.
TECH HELP
Seniors can receive help with a wide variety of tech questions related to email, photo sharing, social media, and/or online services.
REFERRALS
When our members need support beyond our services, staff connect them with other community services such as affordable housing, food relief, adaptive transport, house cleaning, etc.
ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
55+ community hour
We provide seniors with a weekly space to engage in community through activities tailored to their needs and interests.
workshops
Previous activities include origami and gardening workshops, information sessions on health topics, travel presentations, and discussions on tenant rights.
outings
Special outings for senior members include apple picking, a lunch at the cabane à sucre, a boat cruise and more. These activities are made possible by the Grace Dart Foundation and CHSSN.
sports & leisure
We offer free, accessible activities like line dancing, intergenerational discos, and bird watching designed to keep seniors active and engaged. These activities are made possible by CHSSN.
annual summer social
Every June, we bring our senior members together for the Summer Social Tea Party. Funded by individual donors, this celebration is full of connections, good food and smiles.
holiday concert & dinner delivery
Every December, we deliver a meal and a gift to our senior members and we host a live jazz concert to celebrate the season. These events are made possible by the generosity of individual donors.

PROJECT VOISINAGE
Project VoisinAge supports seniors living in low-income housing (HLMs) who face barriers to community participation related to income, mobility, and health. Many residents experience social isolation and limited access to services and feel disconnected from support systems and decision-makers.
By bringing a consistent, trusted presence into these buildings, the YD aims to create welcoming community spaces where neighbours can connect and feel a sense of belonging.
Project VoisinAge runs weekly at three HLMs: Plateau Mont-Royal (Maison de la culture); Du Fort; Hôtel-de-Ville
We facilitate structured programming in each building, adapting activities to residents’ interests, abilities, and needs. Project VoisinAge places seniors at the centre of program design, with activities and advocacy priorities shaped by ongoing dialogue with residents.
Social and wellness activities
Accessible group activities such as line dancing, art therapy, karaoke, and workshops focused on digital skills, financial planning, and wellbeing.
Access to services and support
The YD connects seniors to community, health, and social services through referrals to partner organizations, as well as to Generations volunteer services.
Advocacy
Ongoing documentation of residents’ concerns and priorities, with support to connect seniors to decision-makers, strengthening their collective voice and improving living conditions.
